Yunnan is the most southwestern province in China with stunning landscape and colourful cultures. The terrain is largely mountainous, especially in the north and west. A series of high mountain chains spreads across the province. There is a distinct canyon region to the west and a plateau region to the east. Yunnan's major rivers flow through the deep valleys between the mountains. You could follow Rock’s track to explore Dali and Lijiang; you could trek in the world famous Tiger Leaping Gorge; in Shangri-La, you could experience Tibet without having to entre Tibet. You will find towering mountain ranges and fascinating local culture here.
D1__Arrive in Kunming
Arrive in Kunming, the 'Spring City'. You will be greeted by your guide. And then you will be transferred to your hotel. You will fresh up at the hotel. Rest day is at your leisure.
D2__Kunming to Shilin to Dali
After breakfast, we will head out to
Stone Forest: is a conglomeration of utterly bizarre but stunning karst geology. It’s believed that the Stone Forest is over 270 million years old. The area is used to be an ocean. During the Long Geological Period from the late Permian Period 230 million years ago to 2 million years ago, the ocean subsided and giant rocks appeared. During this time the rocks were gradually worn away by water, forming the strange rock forms seen today.
Dali Ancient Town: is located on the foot of the picturesque Cangshan Mountain, about 13 kilometers to the new city of Dali. It was built in Ming dynasty in 1382, and named as the one of the first historical and cultural cities. Lying on the edge of Erhai Lake at the base of the splendid Cangshan Mountains, Dali Old Town is a truly beautiful setting. The city is the home of the Bai ethnic minority and its ancient quarter still retains its old world charm with narrow cobbled streets and traditional stone architecture within original city walls.
In the morning cormorant fishing on Erhai Lake is followed by a visit to Bai batik. On Mondays we’ll head to Shaping village for the weekly market. Further around the lake we’ll pass through the serene villages of Wase and Shuanglong perched on the east side of the Erhai. In the afternoon we will vist Dali’s famed Three Pagodas.

D4__Dali to Lijiang
After visit Cang Mountain, we will head to Lijiang. It takes about 4 hours by car. Upon arrival, we will check in the hotel. And then we will wander in Dayan Ancient Town (Lijiang Ancient town).
Cang Mountian: this range of gorgeous peaks rises imposingly above Dali and offers the best legwork in the area.
Dayan Ancient Town (Lijiang Ancient town): is prestigious for its unique system of waterways and bridges built by Naxi People’s with their special culture background. There are almost 350 varied and inimitable bridges in the little town, some of which were built in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
In the morning we'll visit Shuhe Acient Town. After that you will visit Baisha Village and Rock’s Former Residence.
Shuhe Acient Town: is the relic of the Tea-Horse Trading Caravan from bank of Mekong River to India via Tibet. We will walk from Long Quan (Drangon Spring) in Shuhe Old Town to Baisha Village
Baisha village: is a small village on the plain north of Lijiang, near several old temples. Before Kublai Khan made it part of his Yuan empire (1271-1368), Baisha was the capital of the Naxi Kingdom.
Former Residence of Rock Joseph: Rock Joseph was the first foreign scholar to introduce Lijiang ethnic culture to the western world. It’s located at Yuhu Village. The houses were made by the Naxi people out of a unique stone call 'monkey head'. The stone is something between stone and mud. With the reflection of the stone on the snow mountain, houses made of ‘monkey head look even more natural and beautiful.
D6__Lijiang to Qiaotou to Half-way
After breakfast, we will drive two hours to Tiger Leaping Gorge (Qiaotou). Our Tiger Leaping Gorge trekking trip starts from here through High Trail to Halfway. Today we will trek approximately 6 hours to Half-way. Two hours trek to Naxi family Guest House. After a short rest, we will trek another 2 hours futher up the steep 28-bends and reach the top of 2670m along the way. And then we will do 1.5 hours to Half-way, with a great view of Yulong Snow Mountain and overlooking the Jinshajiang River Valley.
D7__Half-way to Middle Tiger Leaping Gorge to Shangri-La (Zhongdian)
Today we will trek another 3 hours. In the morning, we will hike down to Tina’s Guest House passing a small but awesome waterfall on the way. This section is the highlight of Tiger Leaping Gorge trekking. We will continue down to the Middle Tiger Gorge, and then back to the main road and take a short drive to Tina’s Guest House. After lunch, we drive to Shangri-La. On the way, we will visit Baishuitai. Afterwards we will follow the back road from Baishuitai to Shangri-la. The scenery along the way should keep you glued to the window.
Baishuitai: the glimmer of the sun bouncing off the rippling waters tiny hamlets in the valley below rivals that of Haba on the previous day.
In the morning visit the Sumsanling Monastery. In the afternoon we’ll visit Napa Hai and visit a Tibetan village on the mountain side. The rest time is free at your own leisure to explore in Shangri-la old town.
Sumsanling Monastery: Yunnan’s largest and most important Tibetan Buddhist site. It is a 300-year-old Tibetan monastery complex with around 600 monks.
Napa Hai: surrounded by a large grassy meadow. Between September and March there is myriad rare species including the Black-necked Crane.
D9__Shangri-La to Kunming
Your Yunnan Tiger Leaping Gorge Trekking Tour is near the end. You will be transferred to the airport for your flight back to Kunming. End of service.
